He goes on to say that 3,542 completed carbines were at the factory when taken over by Saginaw, Grand Rapids on Jan. 11, 1944 (observed serial numbers for these carbines are below 1,750,000). All other carbines, approximately 50,000 in number, were produced by Saginaw with IP receivers. Welcome to USCARBINECAL30M1.com! If you are like me, owning an M1 Carbine goes a lot deeper than just owning a firearm. It is about owning a piece of history that protected our freedoms and won a world war. Hello, I recently got a Winchester-made M1 carbine. It's in excellent condition and I think I got a good price on it. I'm trying to find a website where I can plug in the serial number and find a manufacture date for it.

How do I verify the age of my M1 Carbine? It belonged to my friends father who passed. He isn't into firearms so I bought it from him. Its in great condition, no rust, stock looks great (wood). I just don't know anything about this rifle. I you tubed how to disassemble it and gave it a full clean and lube. Its in great condition. My main concern is the age, I want to see what I fell into, and see if I would sell it or keep it. Is there a way to tell by the serial number or something?
ETA: I was doing a little reading... It doesn't have the push button safety, it has a little lever you pull down and a bayo lug. All Parts seem to be original, considering the fact that everything seems to be 'equally worn/ equally old looking'
Thanks,

Serial

This Carbine's serial number is 1256156. This is a late first run or block Winchester. The production date would be around October of 1943. This carbine is fitted with a very fine condition 'I' stock and correct wide groove bull nose handguard. Officially, in this serial range this gun should have a early oval stock. This is a late 'I' stock with the clear correct markings. The sling and oiler are the correct early style for this stock. All of the parts in this carbine are Winchester Manufactored parts. Some of these parts however, come from different time frames. There are some correct parts for this serial range. The barrel and front sight are correct. The barrel is bright and clean with no front muzzle flaring. The 'W' and the proof mark is clear to see on the barrel. The type one barrel band is the correct style for this gun. Some of the parts in the trigger guard are for the second production run of Winchesters as well as the operating rod. This is a really nice looking Winchester That is very semi collectable and quite worthy of being fully restored to the correct time frame for this carbine.
