You can reference the above website in order to date your firearm by the numbers and letters in the serial number and also learn how to read the serial number to know what each number and letter stands for, just like in a drivers license number. Remington resumed stamping the date code on the barrel on 10/1/01. Only Remington can give an owner a DOM for a gun from this era, that carries no date code - via the gun's serial number. Since letters have obviously been repeated, it's vital to know when your Remington model was introduced/discontinued. The serial number on all guns made was preceded by the letter U. According to the Remington Society of America barrel date codes were used starting in 1921. This means that only later guns would have a date, specifically in the last 8 years of production. Modern Remington barrels are stamped with a Date/Code, which denotes when it was made. Remington Year of Manufacture Codes maybe found on the barrel of your Remington shotgun, on the left side, just forward of the receiver. The first letter of the Code is the month of manufacture, followed by one or two letters which are the year of manufacture. The last letter in the serial number on modern Remington shotguns is the receiver code. It tells you what shells the receiver was set up at the factory to handle. It's the location of the ejector that makes this determination in 870s, and a 12 gauge 870 set up to handle 3' shells at the factory has a serial number that ends in M. The 'Q' serial number prefix stamp is an inventory code Remington added to Model 1900 serial numbers in 1904; and Rem continued that practice thru the end of production (Model 1894 Remington doubles were assigned a 'P' inventory code). Remington is voluntarily recalling Remington Model 887™ shotguns manufactured from December 1, 2013 through November 24, 2014. Model 887™ shotguns manufactured before December 1, 2013, and after November 24, 2014 are not subject to this recall.

Remington Owners, Remington Year of Manufacture Codes maybe found on the barrel of your Remington rifle [or shotgun] on the left side, just forward of the receiver; the first letter of the Code is the month of manufacture, followed by one or two letters which are the year of manufacture. For shotguns with removeable barrels, the code will be valid for the manufacture of the barrel; maybe for the receiver, as barrels do get switched around.
