Tha Block Is Hot is the debut major label studio album by American rapper Lil Wayne. It was released on November 2, 1999, by Ca$h Money and Universal.[8] Recording sessions took place from 1998 to 1999, with the executive production from Baby and Slim, all of these tracks were produced by Mannie Fresh himself. Apart from the use of the words 'fuck' and 'nigga', the album is almost completely free of profanity from Wayne himself, due to his mother's wishes. The most violent and sexual verses were done by Big Tymers, and the other members of the Hot Boys, including rappers Juvenile, B.G. and Turk.[9]

Commercial performance[edit]

In the United States, the album sold 229,500 copies in its first week, entering at number three on the Billboard 200. In the 2nd week, the album sold over 120,000 copies in the United States.[10] On December 10, 1999, the album became certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for sales of over a million copies. As of 2012, the album has sold 2.1 million copies in the United States and 2.4 million worldwide.[11]
